Billboard
Apple Inc. has purchased online music retailer Lala.com, a Silicon Valley start-up that has threatened “the end of the MP3” with its fast song-streaming application. Lala has developed an application — not yet available to the public — that allows users to buy the right to stream songs from a digital locker for an unlimited time on their iPhones for 10 cents each. The song quality is lower than what Apple’s iTunes songs offer, but tracks can played in seconds, and cost much less than the songs on iTunes, which generally are priced at 69 cents to $1.29 each.

Digital Photo Pro Magazine
Seattle-based photographer Chase Jarvis has been profiled in this month’s issue of Digital Photo Pro magazine as “Master of the New Media.” Jarvis, they write, is the “consummate photographer, bringing a pure love for the medium and an energy-fueled gusto to the world of commercial photography,” the article boasts. “Chase Jarvis has mastered what it takes to be a digital photographer, from an aggressive online presence to plain old technical know-how in realizing a project’s concept from beginning to end. What’s more, he has become a major commercial photographer while staying true to his roots as an independent artist, and he’s accomplished all of this with a considerable lack of hubris.” His success in the commercial world of photography also has allowed him to pursue his own interests on the side, including “Songs For Eating and Drinking,” in which he invites musicians to a feast of sorts put together with his friend Michael Hebb. Past guests have included members of Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Pedro the Lion, Throw Me the Statue, Macklemore and others. Jarvis directs the evening and takes stills and video for posting to the website.
