First Pitchfork loved him, and now The New York Times is going ga-ga for our very own Perfume Genius. The review of his recent New York show focuses mostly on his physical connection to his songs; “during ‘Mr. Peterson,’ his face twitched. He physically hesitated before committing to certain lines. It was as if he were reliving an awful memory, retelling it tentatively, unfurling the pain a little bit at a time.” About his latest album, Learning, “Though he rarely works with much beyond piano, he writes sturdy melodies and arrangements, solid enough to carry his bleak lyrics, doled out frugally.” To read the full Times review, follow the link.
