Amazing news for local film students: The Seattle Film Institute has just been approved to offer a Master of Arts Degree in Producing for Film and a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Filmmaking. The Institute says they have shaped these new programs to address the current realities of filmmaking and to take advantage of Seattle’s unique identity as a hub for technology, independent filmmaking, and the creative arts. Taught by working professionals, both graduate programs will also feature innovative and flexible curricula designed to be responsive to the ever-evolving filmmaking landscape. Says SFI director David Shulman, “The time is right for a new model in film education, and Seattle is the ideal location.” The new programs make their debut February 2011, but SFI is hosting an informational meeting Saturday, November 20.
