The Stranger
Last Wednesday evening at the Living Room on Capitol Hill, Seattle woke up to a new aural innovator of the ambient persuasion: Your City Sleeps. The one man powerhouse behind the music Miles Kazemian, hails from Northern greater Seattle (rumor has it somewhere in the Perrinville precinct), prolifically creates original music in his basement studio and has recently been getting some well deserved acclaim. Dave Segal of The Stranger calls Your City Sleeps, “Seattle’s next great ambient-music hope.” Pulling musical inspiration from PNW weather, his Puget Sound costal environment and Seattle’s space age aspirations, Kazemian’s music ebbs and flows between sparse soundscapes and heavy beat driven loops and hooks, oscillating from organic to mechanical sounds that envelop the listener. His “ambience” twists electonica genres unmercifully, while seamlessly drifting into a vast spectrum of tonal moods. Witnessing a YCS performance is strikingly similar to a first viewing of a Sci-Fi masterpiece (Blade Runner comes to mind), where the unknown slowly engulfs you and takes you on a mind-blurring journey without skipping a single beat. Segal also raves, “With great attention to detail, Your City Sleeps offers an unconventionally beautiful, superior way to chill.” Lucky for you the entire performance mix has been uploaded to Soundcloud where you can currently listen to all of Your City Sleeps’ tracks (insert cheesy Sleepless in Seattle pun) here. Shout out to Living Room Bar for hosting the amazing Show & Tell event every second and forth Wednesday. Don’t snooze Seattle, hop on the link above to read all of Dave Segal’s show review and check out Your City Sleeps.
