KEXP
Every Friday KEXP showcases the musical talent of local artists in its “Song of the Day” podcast. Today’s selection is the new single, “Rattle Your Bones” from Seattleites Black Whales. With a sound filled with “jangly guitar hooks, tambourines and harmonicas,” to borrow from KEXP, Black Whales deliver their own “blend of dark psychedelic pop.” This new song is a sneak preview of the band’s forthcoming 7” album, a follow-up to their debut EP, Origins, which made waves at this years’ Doe Bay Fest and in the Seattle music scene at large. The band is celebrating the release of “Rattle Your Bones” tonight at Columbia City Theater. For more details hit up the link.

Sound on the Sound
The Black Whales commune with nature and capture the essence of Doe Bay with their vintage stylings in the final installment of this year’s “sessions.” Says Sound on the Sound: “[The band] was able to take the idea of doing sessions in the unconventional setting of Doe Bay and run with it, […] seizing the moment and setting the bar for next year. This is what we were thinking of when we cooked this idea up.” Check out the video, and be sure to catch the Black Whales November 5th at Columbia City Theater for their Ragged Bones release party.

THE RISING FORCE OF MT. FUJI RECORDS

Crosscut
Travis Hay at Crosscut writes, “There’s no denying 2009 been a great year for Seattle music. It’s the year The Crocodile was resurrected, Pearl Jam pushed itself its back way rock relevance, and hip hop hit hard. But when the local music history books are written, the final year of this decade might be remembered best for Michael Jaworski and his record label Mt. Fuji Records…. Mt. Fuji’s roster of local talent rivals that of just about any Northwest indie label and all of its releases seem to spotlight the depth and diversity of the city’s rock scene.” Read the full feature on the local label at the above link.
