A trailer for the upcoming National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) is live and from the looks of it, this will be one awesome event! The festival will happen on April 25 -28 and will showcase the work of talented film makers from all over the world aged 22 and younger.

Reel Grrls is a Seattle-based nonprofit that strives to empower young women to realize their talent in the world of media by providing hands-on workshops related to every aspect of filmmaking. Reel Grrls is seeking an inspirational and visionary leader with a passion for film, digital media and the empowerment of young women to fill The Executive Director position. The Executive Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and guidance to Reel Grrls, oversees all organizational functions and programs and forges strategic partnerships with funding sources, governmental agencies, partner organizations and all stakeholder constituencies.

CREATIVELIVE OFFERS CHANCE TO ATTEND FILMMAKING WORKSHOP FOR FREE

Gale Tattersall is a director of photography known for his work on projects like the hit TV series House, among others. Local filmmakers interested in learning from this veteran of the industry can do so at an HDDSLR filmmaking workshop hosted by creativeLIVE. The South Lake Union-based educational company is seeking an in-studio audience for Tattersall’s workshop. To be eligible, post a minute-long video about why you want to take part in the course to YouTube, Vimeo or a similar video sharing website. Then tweet the video link on Twitter with mention to @creativeLIVE and tag #GaleTattersall in the message. The lucky six students who are chosen will get to attend a live filming of the three-day workshop and will receive a free course download of the class. Deadline to participate is Friday, June 17.

UW PROFESSIONAL & CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS HOST FIRST ANNUAL PORTFOLIO SHOW FOR ARTS, WRITING AND FILM

Students in the arts like nothing better than to show off their creations to the world. More than 45 students of the UW Professional & Continuing Education’s arts programs will display collected artwork and year-end projects at the first annual Student Portfolio Show. UW Professional & Continuing Education is a resource for professionals seeking career change, advancement, or simply a means for developing personal interests. Among the participating programs in the show are Independent Filmmaking, Audio Production and Screenwriting. The event gives students the chance to display the caliber of their work, connect the public with artists and instructors, and to demonstrate how a UW certificate program could help your career.

SEATTLE FILM INSTITUTE LAUNCHES GRADUATE PROGRAMS

Amazing news for local film students: The Seattle Film Institute has just been approved to offer a Master of Arts Degree in Producing for Film and a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Filmmaking. The Institute says they have shaped these new programs to address the current realities of filmmaking and to take advantage of Seattle’s unique identity as a hub for technology, independent filmmaking, and the creative arts. Taught by working professionals, both graduate programs will also feature innovative and flexible curricula designed to be responsive to the ever-evolving filmmaking landscape. Says SFI director David Shulman, “The time is right for a new model in film education, and Seattle is the ideal location.” The new programs make their debut February 2011, but SFI is hosting an informational meeting Saturday, November 20.
