Don’t miss Reel NW’s rebroadcast of Man Zou: Beijing to Shanghai, tonight at 10:00 pm on KCTS 9. If you can’t tune in, or are DVR-deprived , never fear: The entire 86-minute film will begin streaming free online tomorrow night and will also be available to view on-demand for one week through local cable providers. Directed by Seattle native Jason Reid, Man Zou follows the story of four American friends and their Chinese guide as they set out on a mission to bicycle more than 1,000 miles between China’s two largest cities. The documentary is part of the Reel NW series, which every week airs intriguing films from or about our local community, in an effort to showcase the very best in Northwest independent filmmaking. “WHEEDLE’S GROOVE” PREMIERES TONIGHT

Don’t miss Wheedle’s Groove, a local documentary about Seattle’s forgotten funk/soul scene circa the 1970s, which premieres tonight at 10:00 pm on KCTS 9. During the film’s festival circuit run, The Seattle Times gave it four stars, commenting that Wheedle’s Grove “captures the soul of Seattle.” The film is part of the first season of “Reel NW,” the 12-part film series launched by KCTS to champion the work of the local independent filmmaking community and to bring the best features, documentaries and shorts to Seattle airwaves. “REEL NW” PREMIERS NEXT WEEK

“Reel NW” aims to champion the work of a talented local independent filmmaking community by bringing the best features, documentaries and shorts to film-loving public television audiences in Seattle, Vancouver, B.C. and beyond. The first season lineup includes Paddle to Seattle, Man Zou: Beijing to Shanghai, Rebuilding Hope and American Collectors. All twelve films featured in the first season of “Reel NW” are made by Northwest filmmakers, shot in the Northwest or feature a Northwest subject. Beyond the Thursday night TV broadcast, the series includes public screening events and an interactive online environment to reach the widest possible audience for Northwest independent film. The first event takes place on November 30, when KCTS 9, the Washington State China Relations Council and the Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas host a screening and discussion of Man Zou: Beijing to Shanghai with director Jason Reid (Sonicsgate) at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. Official Best of Fest
This Saturday night is the premiere of Seattle’s own PBS television series “Official Best of Fest Presents: The Best Films You’ve Never Seen,” written and directed by Seattleite Rick Stevenson and co-produced by Stevenson, Kevin Sabourin and Brandon Whitehead. Featuring some of the world’s finest shorts, the 30 part series will be broadcast on KCTS (Channel 9) starting October 16 at 7 pm for a one hour special and then continuing every Saturday at 7:30 pm thereafter.
