MOHAI’S “HISTORY IS ____” COMPETITIONmohaifilm

The Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) is currently accepting submissions for their Third Annual History is____ short film competition! The theme of the film is up to you: the filmmaker. Submissions from 2012 included themes like “History is Basketball” and “History is Mystery.” The competition is all about creativity and sharing your view of what history is. Here is MOHAI’s playlist of the 2012 short films for those who are curious.

The Rules and FAQ page has the rules that you need to know in order to craft your film. Submissions are being accepted through March 31!



MOHAI PRESENTS “Behind the Lens: A Celebration of Youth Filmmaking” ON DECEMBER 9

The Old Firehouse Teen Center and MOHAI are hosting Behind the Lens: A Celebration of Youth Filmmaking. Join the Office of Film + Music, Washington Filmworks, SIFF, NFFTY, and other partners for panels, internship booths, and refreshments.  The event is happening in Redmond, Friday, December 9th at 7 p.m.

Heads up Seattle filmmakers: The last day to submit entries into MOHAI’s History Is____ community film competition is today, April 1, by 5:00 pm. Submissions can be mailed or delivered to the Museum of History and Industry (aka MOHAI) or uploaded onto the competition’s handy new web portal–courtesy of Indieflix–which you can access here. History Is____ invites filmmakers from all walks of life to fill in the blank and tell MOHAI what history really means to them. Prizes for winners of the competition include a screening at SIFF 2011; passes to the SIFF ShortsFest Weekend and other exclusive events; scholarships to TheFilmSchool; a chance to meet star documentarian Ken Burns; and a job shadow opportunity with KCTS 9. MOHAI
For all those working on a film for the Museum of History and Industry’s History Is ___ community film competition, there is now a new easier way for you to submit your entry. With the help of Indieflix, MOHAI now has the capacity to accept submissions online. This will streamline the film submission process for competing filmmakers, especially those with last minute entries (not to encourage procrastination). Simply enter in the title, length, and a brief description of your film, along with a description of the filmmaking team and upload the digital video file. History Is___ invites filmmakers of all ages to fill in the blank, and tell MOHAI what “History is” to them. THE NEXT YOUTH FILM HAPPY HOUR IS THIS SATURDAY

Attention youth filmmakers: Join Northwest Film Forum, the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI), SIFF and KCTS 9 this Saturday, February 26 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm, for a networking event exclusively for you! Enjoy complimentary food, drinks and music as you mingle with other youth filmmakers, watch short film screenings and learn about upcoming projects you can take part in. This month’s event will be held in conjunction with MOHAI’s History Is_____ , a new community film competition which tasks filmmakers of all ages to fill in the blank with works that portray what “History Is” to them. A number of seasoned film professionals will also be in attendance at the event, offering expert advice about launching a career in film. Update: The Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) is giving filmmakers participating in its new community film competition, History Is____, free access to as many as five historical images from MOHAI’s digital archive for use in submitted works—but get on it quick! Orders for this free image offer must be placed through MOHAI’s website by 5:00 pm January 31. What’s more, MOHAI has just announced the prizes for winning entries. Competitors have a chance to win some sweet swag, including a change to meet Ken Burns, a scholarship to The Film School, membership to 911 Media Arts Center, a screening of their winning film a SIFF 2011 and up to $2,500 in cold hard cash.
