There is a tractor in the Tractor Tavern. It hangs above the far wall in the Ballard Avenue haunt, rust-colored and soft-edged, easy to miss in the low light and swirl of music and conversation. This tractor — a 5- by 8-foot oil painting by local artist and longtime Tractor bartender Dan Amell — could be considered the tractor, because, 15 years ago this month, it gave a name to what’s now one of the longest-lived music venues in Seattle. The Tractor Tavern’s 15th anniversary season kicks off with a CD-release party for the Maldives album “Listen to the Thunder” this Thursday night at 9:00 pm. The anniversary celebrations continue on Friday and Saturday nights; bands include the Moondoggies, North Twin, 17th Chapter, Shim and more.

NO DEPRESSION RECAP

Seattle Timesnodepression
The No Depression Festival made its case as one of the best festivals of the summer this past Saturday at Marymoor Park, and this is only its first year. The daylong rootsy Americana fest provided the perfect soundtrack for a beautiful day in Redmond. Highlights included the psychedelic alt.country of Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, the Seattle Roots Music All-Stars (featuring Kristen Ward, Star Anna, Mark Pickerel, 1/3 of The Maldives, Serah Cahoone, members of North Twin and a few others), Justin Townes Earle and many more.
