The episode will feature gorgeous work from Gabrielle Bakker; a charming profile of painter and ArtCar curator Kelly Lyles; hilarious animation from Dale Goodson; a chat with art gallery owner, Greg Kucera; and terrific music from local band Head Like a Kite. SEATTLE CHANNEL NOMINATED FOR 17 REGIONAL EMMYS

On Thursday, the Northwest Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the regional Emmy nominees for 2011. Among those honored, Seattle Channel garnered 17 nominations, which includes a nod for “Station Excellence”. The five states covered by the NATAS are Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. Seattle Channel station manager Beth Hester said, “We want to thank our peers in the broadcast media for this recognition. Credit should not only go to the talented and creative individuals who received the nominations but also to the entire staff of Seattle Channel who work hard every day to serve the residents of Seattle.” The Northwest Emmy Awards will take place Saturday, June 11 at Snoqualmie Casino. GET READY FOR AN OPEN STUDIO EPISODE WITH THIS WEEK’S “ARTZONE”

Today’s episode of ArtZone with Nancy Guppy will be an all performance “open studio” featuring some amazing local talent. The show will have you jamming to original music from three awesome singer songwriters: Kim Virant, Jim Page and The Femurs. Nancy will also feature an excerpt from Elizabeth Kenny’s Sick, a one-woman show about her pharmaceutically induced fall into psychosis. The show will conclude with weirdly wonderful music and theatrics from UMO Ensemble’s newest production, Red Tiger Tales. Also: Starting this Thursday, April 14, Nancy will join KING 5’s “New Day Northwest” host, Margaret Larson, with a regular “what’s happening around town” calendar of events art segment. NANCY GUPPY TOURS EMP’S NEW NIRVANA EXHIBIT IN THIS WEEK’S ALL-NEW “ARTZONE”

This Friday’s episode of ArtZone with Nancy Guppy “takes punk to the masses,” and then some with an exclusive preview of EMP’s hugely-anticipated Nirvana exhibition, which debuts April 16. Lynn Shelton imparts some of her sage filmmaking insight in the latest episode of ArtZone with Nancy Guppy, which premieres this Friday, April 1, on Seattle Channel. The renowned Seattle director will sit down with show host Nancy Guppy to discuss her body of work and, particularly, how she gets creatively “unstuck.” Also featured in this week’s episode: Lyric Light Opera’s production of the classic musical Camelot; singer-songwriter Heather Duby, who will chat about her newest record Latency; and Vermillion Gallery & Bar’s “Frances Farmer Organ Karaoke,” the second annual event for people who can’t sing. Up-and-coming local band Joseph Giant will visit the ArtZone studio to play a few tunes as well.
