Filmmakers: Enter Your Short in the Three Minute Masterpiece

Don’t hide your brilliant cinematic creations in your basement. Share your work at this year’s Three Minute Masterpiece, a film competition sponsored by The Seattle Times and Seattle International Film Festival. Your are invited to shoot a film of three minutes or less, and winners will show at the festival and stream on The Seattle Times website. The deadline for submitting is Monday, April 23.

Washington Filmworks, in partnership with IFP/Seattle, Northwest Film Forum, Northwest Screenwriters Guild, Seattle Film Institute, Seattle International Film Festival, Seattle Office of Film + Music, Women in Film-Seattle and the Warren Report are pleased to present “Pulling Focus: A Clear Picture of Today’s Film Industry.” Pulling Focus is a series of four panel discussions about the business of film designed to speak to the diversity of audience members, from screenwriters to actors, from directors to producers and on to musicians. Thursday’s event will focus on the role of a film’s producer and importance of professional producing. The panel will feature special guest speaker Deborah Moore, former executive vice president of New Line Cinema Productions, sharing insights from her 25 years of experience as a studio executive and producer. The event will be moderated by Warren Etheredge from The Warren Report. This is a unique opportunity for local area arts organizations, talent, filmmakers and all those interested in the business of film to get together, share experiences and learn how to help the Northwest continue to thrive as a filmmaking hub. The panel will be held at the Sorrento Hotel in downtown Seattle on Thursday, May 5. Doors will open at 6:30pm with the discussion to begin at 7pm. WASHINGTON FILMWORKS’ “PULLING FOCUS” SERIES RETURNS TONIGHT

Washington Filmworks, in partnership with IFP/Seattle, Northwest Film Forum, Northwest Screenwriters Guild, Seattle Film Institute, Seattle International Film Festival, Seattle Office of Film + Music, Women in Film-Seattle and the Warren Report are pleased to present “Pulling Focus: A Clear Picture of Today’s Film Industry.” The first installment of the 2011 series kicks off tonight at The Sorrento Hotel, and will feature a candid conversation with special guests Matthew Lillard (Scooby Doo, Scream, SLC Punk), Darrien Gibson (Executive Director of SAGIndie) and Nike Imoru (casting director for NxNW), all moderated by Warren Etheredge of the Warren Report. Talking points will include: how to bring out the best in your talent and crew, the business of being an actor, the importance of finding the perfect cast and much more. This is a unique opportunity for local area arts organizations, talent, filmmakers and all those interested in the business of “show business” to get together, share experiences and learn how to help the Northwest continue to thrive as a filmmaking hub. Guests are invited to continue the conversation after the panel discussion at a cocktail reception hosted by the Washington Wine Commission. Doors open for the event at 6:30 pm and the panel begins at 7:00.

UWTV NEEDS FILMS AND PANELISTS FOR NEW INDEPENDENT FILM TELEVISION SERIES

UWTV and the Seattle International Film Festival are joining forces to create a new Independent film series and are inviting the local filmmaking community to take part. The new program will feature discussions on filmmaking with University of Washington affiliated directors, actors and production crew members, followed by on-air broadcasts of their feature-length or short films. To qualify for the program, submitted films must have been completed with the participation of a University of Washington student, alumni or employee, and this connection must be detailed in application documents. If selected, UWTV will provide exposure and promotion of the film and crewmember(s) to its statewide and international audiences. Get on it quick: the deadline for submission is Monday, January 10. SPIKE LEE, FRANCIS FORD COPPOLA COMING TO SEATTLE FILM FESTIVAL

Filmmakers Spike Lee and Francis Ford Coppola will be among the guests at the 35th annual Seattle International Film Festival, beginning May 21. Lee will receive the 2009 Golden Space Needle Award at a special tribute ceremony May 23 at the Egyptian Theatre. Coppola, the Academy Award-winning director of “The Godfather” and “The Godfather, Part II” will appear with his new drama “Tetro,” the story of an Italian immigrant family in Argentina. SIFF will run through June 14 at several local theaters, including new venues in Kirkland and West Seattle.
