Seattle’s adored Fleet Foxes, natives of Seattle and prized for being scrupulously raw and tender in their lyrics and melodies, played a show at the Paramount Theater earlier this week.  One tech-savvy audience member caught a respectable recording with their iPhone. The MP3 highlights frontman Robin Pecknold as he shares a new solo acoustic tune named “August Night”.  Stereogum, a national MP3 and music news blog, has brought the recording online, and it is now available to download for free off of their homepage.

We know, we know. There have been loads of “Best Bands of 2010 So Far” lists released this summer, and we’ve been scanning every one of them for Seattle bands. Stereogum, the popular music blog, just released its own list of 40 Best New Bands of 2010, and once again, Seattle’s Perfume Genius made the cut. Bands qualified if Stereogum felt “the band’s discussion, their moment, their arrival, was tied to this year in our minds, then it was eligible for this list.” Perfume Genius’ Mike Hadreas explains his album: “I spent my whole life hiding from the things that happened to me, to my family and friends … The entirety of all these experiences: abuse, addiction, suicide, all that cool stuff, I couldn’t bear to look at it.” Once he finally looked at it, his heartbreaking album, Learning just poured out. Check out the full listing at the link above.
