Sub Pop
Sub Pop Records has announced the recipients of the 2010 Sub Pop Loser Scholarship. Now in its fourth year, the scholarship was open to Washington and Oregon high school seniors on their way to full-time enrollment at an accredited university or college who are actively involved and/or interested in music and/or the creative arts. Sub Pop granted a total of $13,000 in scholarship money, split between three students. The first place, $6,000 scholarship went to Bryn Kepler from Bainbridge Island. She’s been incredibly active in the local arts/music community, volunteering for various organizations and festivals in the area. She’s also a drummer and an artist and will be attending the UW Honors Program in the fall to study architecture. The $4,000 second place scholarship went to Ballard’s Matthew Law-Phipps. Matthew will be attending Temple University in Philadelphia in the fall to study video production, multi-media arts and sound design. Our third place, $3,000 scholarship winner is Raina Jung from Portland, OR. Raina will be going to the California College of the Arts this fall. She is an environmentalist and a great graphic artist. She is also a photographer and is interested in ceramics, bookbinding and printmaking. Her senior project was creating a 45-page magazine called “Make Bad Good” which was intended to tell people about how they can make positive changes for our environment. Big congratulations to these three!
