South Lake Union Block Party
The 7th annual South Lake Union Block Party takes place tomorrow with the promise of free admission, Cinema on the Lawn, and mouth-watering food and drink from local eateries like 13 Coins, Lunchbox Laboratory, and some of the city’s most popular food trucks. An outdoor screening of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World starts at dusk. An estimated 7,500 people are expected to attend the neighborhood celebration, and all proceeds will go to benefit YouthCare and FareStart.

KEXP’S CONCERTS AT THE MURAL START TOMORROW

Summer has arrived just in time for KEXP’s Concerts at the Mural outdoor music series, taking place at the Mural Amphitheatre in Seattle Center. See free performances by local artists each Friday throughout the month of August. Tomorrow you can catch performances by The Maldives, Hey Marseille and Black Whales. Saturday is also the 9th annual KEXP BBQ, which will be hosted by some of KEXP’s favorite DJs and feature performances by Fool’s Gold, Rainbow Arabia, Capsula, School of Rock, Virgin Island, and Mad Rad. If you’re feeling extra lucky, consider entering to win VIP passes through Seattle Center which guarantees prime seating plus food and drink vouchers.

Out To Lunch
Summer in the City in cooperation with the Downtown Seattle Association is curating a the 2011 “Out to Lunch” free concert series this summer. The program consists of free concerts on Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 1:30. The hootenannies will go down at various open-air locations about the city including the Bank of America Plaza, the Federal Courthouse, the Harbor Steps, Park Place, Occidental Square, Two Union Square, Waterfront Park and Westlake Park. This is your chance to check out some of Seattle most amazing musical talent, scot free and under the summer sun. Artists such as The Moondoggies, Hey Marseilles, Choklate, The Maldives, Kris Orlowski and the Passenger String Quartet, Show Brazil, The Dusty 45’s and Seattle’s favorite funk band Wheedle’s Groove! Take a nice long lunch break and enjoy the positive vibrations in the sun with Summer in the City (of Music).

2009 SUMMER RECREATION EMPLOYMENT

Seattle Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Associated Recreation Council and 37 citywide advisory councils, is now accepting applications for various Summer programs. Temporary positions are available at approximately 24 community centers, eight indoor swimming pools, two outdoor pools, two small craft centers, and many public beaches and wading pools.

The concert industry has been impervious to the recession and high ticket prices over the years. But with the economic news getting worse by the day, artists and concert promoters are trying to make sure fans come out to the stadiums, arenas and concert halls this year by offering ticket deals and other incentives. Bands such as No Doubt and Coldplay are offering free music with the purchase of a ticket to their live events. Concert promoter Live Nation is offering a $10 Tuesday promotion for some shows and is expanding its four-pack plan, where fans can buy four tickets for the price of three.
