GIVE IT UP FOR ‘GIVE,’ A DOWNLOADABLE BENEFIT COMPILATION FEATURING AN ALL-STAR LINEUP OF SEATTLE BANDS

There’s zero downside to “GIVE,” a downloadable benefit compilation of 30 genre-spanning songs by Seattle musicians. At $7, you’re paying less than a quarter per song. Every cent of that $7 goes toward local hunger relief and arts education. Each of the songs — most of them exclusive — is good. “GIVE” is the sort of big city/small pond collaboration that could only happen in Seattle. Every facet — music, engineering, graphic design, server space, organization, promotion, etc. — was donated. From the sponsors to the bands, “GIVE” demonstrates the Seattle music community is all things to all people, if the people are willing to dig a little. Bands include Fleet Foxes, the Moondoggies, Visqueen, the Saturday Knights, the Maldives, Grand Archives, Cave Singers, Gabriel Mintz, Arthur & Yu, Talbot Tagora, Hey Marseilles, Pearly Gate Music, Tea Cozies, Fatal Lucciauno, Fresh Espresso, Josh Morrison, Sera Cahoone, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band. “GIVE” is available for download today, November 17th.

The Seattle Weekly posted some of the bands playing the festival earlier, but they have now released the complete list of bands who’ll be playing REVERB Saturday, October 3. This year, they’ve added a classy jazz venue, and made sure that four venues are all ages. Performers include, The Maldives, Tea Cozies, GMK, and Heatwarmer. The Seattle Weekly’s fifth annual all-local music festival takes place Saturday, October 3 in Ballard again this year, and while they can’t reveal all the line-up details now — everything will be finalized after Bumbershoot– the already announced line-up includes THEE Satisfaction, Fatal Lucciauno, GMK, Fresh Espresso, The Maldives, Recess Monkey, Grynch, the Tea Cozies and more.

MTV’s “5 Dollar Cover” is being filmed in Seattle right now, directed by Lynn Shelton. The show is a telenovela starring local musicians. Which ones? Well, the Maldives, Thee Satisfaction, Thee Emergency, Harvey Danger, Champagne Champagne, Tea Cozies, the Lights, Weekend, the Moondoggies, and others. The filming schedule includes places like “Mark Gajadhar’s studio” (he’s the drummer in Past Lives, and half of Weekend), “Sean Nelson’s apartment” (Harvey Danger singer, music writer), and “Moondoggies car.” It also includes Chop Suey (8/10; Thee Emergency performance), the KEXP studio (8/15; Tea Cozies performance), Easy Street Records (8/22; Moondoggies’ performance), Hidmo Eritrean Restaurant (8/23; Thee Satisfaction performance), and the Wild Rose (8/25; the Lights performance).
