SPIN
To tame the musical beast that is SXSW 2011, SPIN Magazine has culled the Fest’s 2,000 count performance lineup to select this year’s “can’t miss” acts—and two rising Seattle stars have made the list! The Head and the Heart and Fences are featured amongst the SPIN editors’ 35 top picks for the week-long Austin event. Of The Head and the Heart SPIN says, “This folk-rock outfit have been called the Emerald City’s Next Big Thing — and these five twentysomethings [….] are well on their way to fulfilling that prophecy. In under a year, they went from collaborating at an open-mic night at a Seattle coffee shop to releasing their self-titled debut.” SPIN also outlines the appeal of homegrown crooner Chris Mansfield—aka Fences: “The tattoo-covered singer-songwriter [….]sings with breathy earnestness, as if he was born to coo sad acoustic songs of relationships gone awry.” Check out the full article via the link above!

Bonnaroo
The official lineup for Bonnaroo 2011—the four-day, farm-tastic Tennessee music and arts festival that has developed a dedicated following in its ten short years—will feature The Head and the Heart! To plug the band’s Bonnaroo debut, the festival’s official website doles out some high praise for the local up-and-comers: “So many decisions in life and in the music we love can come down to a critical tug between the logic in our heads and the hot red blood beating through our hearts. Seattle’s The Head and the Heart live authentically in that crux, finding joy and beauty wedged there. Their music pulses effervescently—both explosively danceable and intuitively intelligent.” The site is also streaming some sweet Head and the Heart tunes to preview what Bonnaroo-goers will have in store when the festival kicks off come June. Sound on the Sound
It’s finally happened! The Head and the Heart have made known that they are signed to local Sub Pop Records. Though the deal happened months ago, everything was very hush hush. But if you go to the band’s iTunes page, “Released on Sub Pop Records” can easily be spotted. Having a fantastic local band sign to a highly regarded local label is exciting news, and we are very happy to see the band’s loyalty to Seattle’s music scene.
