LOCAL FILMMAKER’S FEATURE TAKES TO THE EAST COAST AIRWAVES TOMORROW NIGHT

Congrats to Seattle filmmaker Michael Harring! His indie feature, The Mountain, the River and the Road, will bring some Northwest film flavor to the East Coast with a special TV debut tomorrow night, April 9 at 9:00 pm EST. The flick, which filmed in Oak Harbor among other locations, will screen alongside Laurence Olivier classic The Entertainer, as part of WNET’s “Reel 13” weekend film showcase. Those of us outside the PBS-affiliate’s New York / New Jersey/ Connecticut/ Pennsylvania service area can peep a trailer tidbit from The Mountain below.

INDIE MEMPHIS FILM FESTIVAL FEATURES SEATTLE FILMS

Indie Memphis
Now entering its 12th year, Indie Memphis utilizes Memphis’ rich cultural history to serve as a connecting point for regional filmmakers from all corners of the country. The festival is famous for breaking legendary indie filmmakers, such as Jim Jarmusch, and this year features three Seattle films: Dear Lemon Lima, The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle and the Seattle soul documentary Wheedle’s Groove. Also featured is The Mountain, the River and The Road which was shot primarily in the Northwest.



12TH ANNUAL LOCAL SIGHTINGS FILM FESTIVAL AT NORTHWEST FILM FORUM THIS WEEKEND

Northwest Film Forum kicks off the 12th Annual Local Sightings Film Festival tonight with a screening of The Mountain, The River and The Road at 7pm, followed by the Opening Night Party at 9pm. Join Seattle filmmakers, movie buffs and loyal Film Forum fans for boozin’, dancin’ and performances ($5/NWFF members, $7/non-members). Running through Wednesday, October 7th, the Festival includes 9 feature films and over 50 shorts from Northwest Filmmakers, along with special presentations and events. Based on the descriptions, I’d say don’t miss Punch, American Collectors, Where You From or any of the Shorts packages!

Northwest Film Forumlocalsightings-smith
The schedule for the 12th annual Local Sightings Film Festival, a celebration of Northwest filmmaking, has been posted. The festival takes place from October 2-7 at the Northwest Film Forum and is the premier showcase of Northwest filmmaking. The festival features an array of feature, documentary and short films, great prizes, filmmaker parties, archival Northwest films and an impressive national film industry jury looking for strong Northwest work. Highlights include opening night film The Mountain, The River and The Road and Film Originals: the work of George and Helen Smith.



LOCAL SIGHTINGS OPENING NIGHT FILM & JURORS ANNOUNCED

The Northwest Film Forum has announced its opening night film for the 2009 Local Sightings Film Festival: The Mountain, The River and The Road, directed by Michael Harring. In the film, failing post-college writer Jeff (Justin Rice) finds love and himself, stranded in a small town after a botched road trip. The film also stars Tipper Newton (Hannah Takes the Stairs) and Joe Swanberg (Nights and Weekends, LOL). Also announced is the 2009 panel of jurors including Rob Nelson (critic, Film Comment, Variety, Village Voice), Vanessa Renwick (Portland film and video installation artist) and Barry Jenkins (director, Medicine for Melancholy).
