A new business deal will allow Ticketmaster to sell concert tickets at hundreds of Walmart stores across the country. To herald the new partnership, Walmart customers will be able to purchase 4-pack ticket bundles for concerts by artists like Journey, Maroon 5, Train, Rascal Flatts, and more until August 15. Business analysis sees the move as Ticketmaster’s attempt to tap into Walmart’s broad customer base and utilize the potential for exclusive content deals and packages. Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard said, “Ticketmaster will continue to work closely with our clients to create exclusive high value offers for Walmart customers.”

Regulators in the U.K. and U.S. appear likely to impose conditions on the merger of concert promoter Live Nation Inc. and ticket-selling giant Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. now that British authorities came out against the deal Thursday. The U.K. Competition Commission said that combining Ticketmaster and Live Nation “could severely inhibit the entry of a major new competitor, CTS Eventim, into the U.K. ticketing market.” The British regulators have until Nov. 24 to determine what actions to take. Antitrust experts said the ruling makes it more likely that U.K. and U.S. authorities will coordinate a response. That could mean Ticketmaster and Live Nation will be forced to sell off assets, or forced to sell some concert tickets through a competitor.

The proposed merger of ticketing giant Ticketmaster and Live Nation, the world’s largest concert promoter, should be closely scrutinized by the Justice Department, according to the chair of a Senate antitrust subcommittee and 50 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Sen. Herb Kohl, chair of the Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee, said the merger would combine Ticketmaster, the nation’s dominant ticket seller, with Live Nation, which has its own ticketing business. “It is clear that this merger raises serious competitive concerns warranting thorough scrutiny,” wrote Kohl to Christine Varney, head of the Justice Department’s antitrust division

Billboard:
When the world’s biggest concert promoter and largest ticket seller announced they would merge last month, it seemed unlikely that antitrust enforcers would approve the creation of such an entertainment giant. But some competition experts, several of whom are former government officials, now say the combination of Live Nation Inc and Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc actually has a fair shot, though they were not certain if it finally could win approval.

Nearly a month after a controversial ticket on-sale for Bruce Springsteen’s upcoming North American tour, Ticketmaster Entertainment has reached a national settlement with the New Jersey Attorney General in which the ticketing company has agreed to alter some of its business practices and pay $350,000 to cover fees associated with the investigation. As part of the settlement, the ticketing company will stop linking customers to its secondary ticketing site, TicketsNow, for at least one year.
