KING 5
Local filmmaker TJ Martin not only received an Oscar last night, he made Academy Award history. Martin co-directed Undefeated, a true story about an inner-city Memphis football team that shows perseverance, strength and hope against all odds.  He is the first-ever African American to win an Oscar for directing a full-length film of any kind. The Undefeated crew (which also includes Dan Lindsay and Rich Middlemas) took home the prestigious Best Documentary Feature award during the 84th year of the highly-regarded celebration in cinema . Martin plans to speak at his alma mater, Western Washington University, after a screening of the documentary this Thursday, March 1.

Deadline
After an all-night auction, closed a seven-figure deal for distribution and remake rights to Undefeated, a high school gridiron documentary that made its premiere Sunday night at the Vimeo Theater in the South by Southwest Film Festival. Directed by Dan Lindsay and T.J. Martin, Undefeated tells the Cinderella story of an underprivileged football team from the perspective of three student athletes from inner city Memphis and a volunteer coach. The film follows the team’s attempt to win their first playoff game in the school’s 110 year history and inspire their fellow students in the process. Seattleite Sandy Wilson of Light In The Attic Records was the music supervisor for the film. Congratulations on the rapid success and kudos to everyone who made this film possible.
